The Hass Avocado Board is a non-profit agriculture promotion group established in 2002 by a group of farmers and importers to promote consumption of Hass avocados in the United States. In 2010 HAB launched a Nutrition Research program to increase awareness and improve understanding of the unique benefits of avocados to human health and nutrition. The four research pillars are heart health, weight management, diabetes, and healthy living. Nearly 20,000 producers and 100 importers – from California, Chile, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand and the Dominican
Republic – are involved in HAB, which covers fresh domestic and imported Hass Avocados sold in the U.S. market.
