FOOTBALL STAR MARSHALL FAULK AND THE HASS AVOCADO BOARD TAKE ON FANS' HUNGER WITH MARSHALL FAULK'S BUTTERMILK RANCH GUACAMOLE
Fans Expected to Eat 49.5 Million Pounds of Hass Avocados During the Big Game
IRVINE, Calif. (January 17, 2008) –
Big Game Day parties are all about watching the game with good friends and great food.
With the championship game fast approaching, fans everywhere are beginning to think about what they will serve to their guests.
While chips, dips, burgers and hot dogs are practically game day staples, every fan knows that guacamole made with creamy Hass avocados is a must-have snack for gridiron parties.
This year, the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) has teamed up with football great Marshall Faulk to share his favorite game day recipe with "super" fans.
Marshall Faulk's Buttermilk Ranch Guacamole with Spicy Chicken Wings is an easy-to-make, appetizing snack that will give fans a taste of how the football great celebrates Big Game Day.
During Faulk's spectacular 12-year career in the NFL, he dominated the running back position.
Highly recognized for his accomplishments, he was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 1999, 2000 and 2001, NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year in 2000 and was a key contributor of the St. Louis Rams' Super Bowl XXXIV winning team.
He knows football and he knows what makes a great Big Game Day party.
"Since retiring from professional football, I love to watch games surrounded by friends while enjoying some good food," says former NFL player Marshall Faulk.
"Everyone knows that guacamole is a Big Game Day favorite, so you can always find Hass avocados in my kitchen come game time.
Avocados are great for making guacamole, but you can also use them for toppings on everything from burgers and hot dogs, to nachos and chili."
Big Game Day has traditionally been one of the largest consumption days of the year for Hass avocados, so this recipe is sure to be a hit with fans.
In fact, the HAB estimates fans will eat 49.5 million pounds of Hass avocados on this year's Big Game Day - enough to cover Arizona's University of Phoenix Stadium football field, end zone to end zone, more than 19.10 feet deep in avocados.
"Guacamole made with Hass avocados is a favorite at Big Game Day parties," says Jose Luis Obregon, managing director for the HAB.
"By sharing his 'Marshall Faulk's Buttermilk Ranch Guacamole with Spicy Chicken Wings' recipe with fans, everyone can taste the same game day dish that Marshall enjoys while watching the gridiron action."
