The Hass Avocado Board (HAB) is the global leader in fresh Hass avocado nutrition science and facilitates the generation of scientific knowledge that will contribute to understanding the unique health and wellness benefits associated with consuming fresh Hass avocados.

Strictly adhering to its guiding principles, and under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), HAB and its third party researchers follow a science-based, ethical approach in its research to ensure sound, unbiased results.

HAB is currently investigating the relationship between fresh avocado consumption and risk factors for cardiovascular disease, avocado's potential positive role in weight management and diabetes, and avocado's ability to enhance nutrient absorption. And, based on their nutrition and phytochemical components, emerging research suggests that fresh avocados may play a positive role in many emerging areas including skin, eye, joint and cellular health. 


HAB's ANC strictly adheres to its guiding principles and requires that the leading nutrition scientists and institutions with which it collaborates do the same:

  • Value: The ANC will support research to discover and validate the role of fresh avocados to improve public health and nutrition on behalf of the Hass Avocado growers and importers.
  • Relevant: All nutrition research must be motivating and pertinent to the target consumer base in order to support the mission of HAB to grow avocado consumption in the U.S.
  • Science-Based: Nutrition scientists will abide by the highest standards of scientific inquiry, methods, analysis and ethics to guide research and design, including generation of rigorous hypotheses, the submission and publication of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals, and the dissemination of research findings at professional meetings.
  • Transparent: All sponsored investigators and institutions will disclose HAB as a funding source or sponsor in all publications and/or presentations. All research will be conducted independently by scientists, and researcher will ensure communications are based on sound unbiased science and presented within context to avoid misrepresentation.
